Going Green
1 wedding.
10 trees.
100,000 butterflies.
When
you use my services, my gift to you will be a donation made in your
name to the nonprofit
organization "Trees For Butterflies." With this donation, a
grove of
ten "butterfly trees" will be planted in your names. Each of
your
ten butterfly trees will host over ten thousand monarch butteflies on
their annual migration from Minnesota.
How will your
wedding trees help the monarch butterflies?
Minnesota’s
monarch butterflies travel an incredible distance each year, and they
all spend the winter in the tiny 17-acre Oyamel Forest in Michoacan,
Mexico. The oyamel fir trees are at an elevation nearly two miles above
sea level, providing the perfect microclimate for these beautiful
butterflies.
These
wedding trees, planted in your name, are the ideal (and only) trees
that host Minnesota's monarchs over the winter. Monarch butterflies
cluster together to stay warm, and tens of thousands of monarchs
cluster on a single tree. Although monarchs alone weigh less than a
ounce, tens of thousands of them weigh a lot, and oyamel trees are the
only kind able to support this many clustering butterflies. These
precious trees, in this unique environment, are essential for the
monarch butterfly's winter survival and their return to Minnesota.
Your Wedding
Trees
Your
grove of ten trees will be protected in perpetuity, so they will never
be cut down and will serve as a lasting tribute to your love. After we
meet and you reserve my services, you
will receive a certificate in the mail from "Trees for Monarchs,"
a nonprofit conservation agency. Your certificate will describe the
trees planted in your name.
Your
trees and their descendents will forever provide oxygen to the planet,
supply crucial habitat for these essential pollinators, and keep the
monarch butterflies flying.
