If you have music for your wedding set up already,
whether live or recorded on a CD, I will work with the musicians to
coordinate the ceremony and ensure that everything runs
smoothly. Even if your music needs are simple, getting all the
music to start and end at the right time, smoothly and correctly, is a
tricky undertaking, and it's nice to have an experienced coordinator in
charge to set things up. |
Music question:
Rev. Tomkin,
I thought I would send an email keeping you posted and ask some
questions for my peace of mind. We still don't know an exact date but
they have narrowed it down to early May. I was looking through your
website and was wondering what people have typically done for music in
an outdoor wedding. We were looking at a guitar player that plays light
Caribbean music, would this be okay with you or would you recommend
something different? Sorry for all the questions.
Thank you!
Answer:
Yes, a guitar player is a terrific choice for an
outdoor wedding. Not only is live music gorgeous, but here's the three
main reasons why I recommend a guitarist:
1. A guitarist will be especially good at reacting to the wedding
ceremony, changing mood, style as necessary. A good guitarist will
especially excel in this capacity.
2. Any guitarist will be much less expensive than a multi-musician group, such as a trio, quartet, or quintet.
3. If you wind up using the guitarist for the cocktail hour (or even
the reception), and the reception is in a different location than the
ceremony, a guitarist is very mobile will have no trouble moving. A
harpist or string quartet, for example, would have much more difficulty
switching sites.
