If you have music for your wedding set up already, whether live or recorded on a CD, I will work with the musicians to coordinate the ceremony and ensure that everything runs smoothly. Even if your music needs are simple, getting all the music to start and end at the right time, smoothly and correctly, is a tricky undertaking, and it's nice to have an experienced coordinator in charge to set things up.
Music/chair/flowers question:
We are writing from Japan, so please excuse our English. We are in need of live music, harp, flute, and violin, but if it costs high, prefer to recorded music. Do you know how much the costs? We need flower decoration for Gazebo we are using. we would like to have the ceremony Gazebo. We need some chairs for old people (our relatives coming from Japan). Do you have suggestions? Also, would we get the marriage license in the US?
Answer:
Konichiwa!
-If you would be interested in a Flute/Violin/Cello trio, I would highly recommend the Baroque Trio. They have a website at http://www.thebaroquetrio.com - their fee is about $425.
-If you are interested in a Harpist soloist, I recommend Reuben Correa, who has a website at http://www.reubencorrea.com/bio.html His fee is about $375.
Either of the above choices would work really well for your wedding ceremony, if they are within your budget. You'd most likely hire either the Flute/Violin/Cello trio, OR the Harpist soloist (but not both). If either of the above choices sound good to you, I would recommend emailing them and asking if they are available. Both of them are very professional, and I have worked with them before, and if you hire either of them, then you would basically just tell them the date and the time, and they would take care of the rest. If you mention my name, they know me.
If you would like to rent chairs for your guests, I would recommend Apres Party Rental. Apres has a website at http://www.apresparty.com and if you contact them, they will deliver and set up the chairs for you. The cost is about $2/chair, plus they would have a delivery charge.
If you would like to hire someone to set up flowers, I recommend Polished Petals at http://www.polishedpetals.com but I don't know what the fee would be for setting up the flowers. You'd have to email them for a price quote. The person to contact is Erin Erskine, and if you mention my name, she knows me.
For your marriage license, I would recommend applying for the license as soon as you arrive, then they will mail you the marriage license to wherever you are staying. You can then bring the marriage license with you to the wedding rehearsal and I will make sure that it is signed and mailed back to the county.
Music question:
Rev Coleman,
I have checked the web page or Reuben Correa as a harpist. His music is beautiful. We really like to choose Harpist for our wedding. But according to his schedule on internet, he will be out of town on our date. I am just wondering whether
you have known any other harpist from Minnesota state? Thank you.
Answer:
Emily Gerard is wonderful, and is very experienced. Emily has a Master's degree in playing the harp, teaches at McPhail, and has performed at over 300 wedding ceremonies. Emily's phone number is (612) 501-6186. If she's available, Emily is a wonderful choice.
Music question:
Rev. Tomkin,
I thought I would send an email keeping you posted and ask some questions for my peace of mind. We still don't know an exact date but they have narrowed it down to early May. I was looking through your website and was wondering what people have typically done for music in an outdoor wedding. We were looking at a guitar player that plays light Caribbean music, would this be okay with you or would you recommend something different? Sorry for all the questions.
Thank you!
Answer:
Yes, a guitar player is a terrific choice for an outdoor wedding. Not only is live music gorgeous, but here's the three main reasons why I recommend a guitarist:
1. A guitarist will be especially good at reacting to the wedding ceremony, changing mood, style as necessary. A good guitarist will especially excel in this capacity.
2. Any guitarist will be much less expensive than a multi-musician group, such as a trio, quartet, or quintet.
3. If you wind up using the guitarist for the cocktail hour (or even the reception), and the reception is in a different location than the ceremony, a guitarist is very mobile will have no trouble moving. A harpist or string quartet, for example, would have much more difficulty switching sites.
See if I'm free on your date and time!
